Stores put products such as dairy, fruit and meats in very different locations of the store to make the customer get a clear view of what they have. Grocery Stores, or better known as supermarkets, are essential for the world to survive, because it allows us to purchase food and other necessities.
We obviously need food to survive. The greatest advantage of these supermarkets is that we, the consumers are able to get all of the things we need, all in one place, and in some cases at very low prices.
Like a regular grocery store, products are separated into different sections and departments, such as meat, deli, frozen goods, dairy, bread, and so on. This sort of system is used to keep the products organized, and similar products are placed together so they can be easily found.
Of course, these sections contain brand name products that catch many of the consumers eye. What this does is it causes customers to have to make a full gaze of the store to buy the essentials, thus being attracted by all the other merchandise the store has to offer.
While observing many different types of people, throughout the supermarket; everyone has their own taste when it comes to grocery shopping. Some are only shopping for themselves and others are shopping for a family. Also some may be vegetarians that will skip right over the meat section and just shop around the seafood, dairy, foods that obtain to there lifestyle.
Everyone has their own preference to what brand mayonnaise they like for instance one family may like Kraft vs. Everyone has their own personal opinion on what they like better; the grocery store has tons of the same products by many different companies to give the shopper a choice.
There were some shoppers that were they only for the weekly sales and others that were coupon fanatics. As I watched many grocery shoppers they loop up and down the aisles, carefully grabbing their essentials on their list and I found that many are making unplanned impulse purchases.
As I watch every shopper and there every move I ask myself what are they doing and why? I often wonder what is exactly going on in the shoppers mind, what are they trying to achieve going down almost every aisle. I personally feel that we are wired to buy on impulse; we take advantage of our environment.
While observing shoppers I noticed that there were many people that shopped alone rather than some that shopped with children. Like most grocery stores this one is large in size to provide almost everything the customer needs on a daily shopping visit. There is a huge parking lot for the customers convince as well.
Did you know that people who buy food with cash make better choices than people who pay with credit and debit cards? I also found that consumers were significantly more likely to purchase unhealthy foods like cakes and cookies when using a credit or debit card.
As I followed and observed costumers I noticed there shopping carts filled with snacks junk food as well as other weekly groceries such as meats produce and dairy. I find every time I go grocery shopping; I spend hours upon hours looking for things.
The thing about doing grocery shopping is most people do not know where things are kept in the store. While observing I found that many shoppers were returning to the same aisle they have already been to. They make cakes and pies which is great for the customers to have available on a daily bases.
At the deli bar they also make quick to go meals such as sandwiches pizza etc.
Now a days there is a new system that Stop and Shop offers.
